The Isla approach

Look beyond the surface concern.

Texture, visible scars, and the way makeup sits on the skin can lead people to the same treatment page for different reasons. A useful consultation separates those concerns and helps you understand which improvements are realistic for your starting point.

Microneedling uses small needles to create controlled punctures in the skin. Device indications, treatment choices, and individual response matter. Your conversation at Isla can cover conventional microneedling, how it differs from RF microneedling, and the separate considerations involved when PRP is discussed.

01

A defined concern

Identify the texture or scar concern you would most like to discuss. A focused goal makes it easier to evaluate the recommendation than a general request for completely different skin.

02

Your skin's history

Past reactions, pigment changes, acne, cold sores, and earlier procedures all belong in the conversation. Share what has worked for you and what has caused problems.

03

Treatment distinctions

Conventional and RF microneedling work differently. If a combination with PRP or another product is proposed, ask about that combination's evidence, risks, and regulatory limitations separately.

Time to ask. Space to decide.

From the first conversation

A plan with you
at the center.

01

Map the concern

Discuss your skin goals, current routine, medical history, and previous treatments. Ask which concerns the proposed plan may address and which may need another approach.

02

Understand the appointment

Review the device, intended areas, expected skin response, alternatives, and cost. Confirm what aftercare will involve before deciding whether the timing works for you.

03

Review the response

Clarify when to assess progress and whether another appointment would be appropriate. A future visit should follow your response and goals, not a promise of identical results.

Make room for good care

A thoughtful visit
starts here.

Use these topics to prepare for a conversation with your provider. Your individual instructions will depend on your history and the care you choose.

Before your visit

Bring your routine

Share the products you use, including prescription skin treatments, without changing them on your own.

Mention skin changes

Tell Isla about active irritation, recent procedures, cold sores, and any history of unusual scarring.

Plan your schedule

Discuss events, travel, and sun exposure before selecting a treatment date.

After your appointment

Keep care simple

Ask which parts of your usual routine are appropriate during recovery and when to revisit them.

Protect recovering skin

Follow the sun-protection and skin-care instructions provided for your treatment.

Stay in contact

Clarify expected changes and how to report symptoms that concern you.

Have another question? ↗
Is microneedling the same as RF microneedling?

No. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy and has different considerations. The names can sound similar, so ask which treatment is proposed and why. The risks and aftercare discussion should correspond to the specific procedure you are considering.

Can microneedling remove acne scars completely?

Complete removal should not be promised. Ask which features of your scars the treatment is intended to improve and what may remain unchanged. Different concerns can need different approaches, and the consultation should establish realistic expectations before you begin.

Is microneedling with PRP automatically better?

No combination should be assumed better simply because it adds another step. If PRP is discussed, ask about the intended purpose, supporting evidence, additional risks, and cost. FDA device clearance does not establish approval for delivering PRP through microneedling.

How many sessions will I need?

The appropriate plan depends on the concern, assessment, and response to treatment. Ask how recommendations would change if your skin reacts differently than expected. You should understand the purpose of each proposed visit before committing to a course.

Should I change my skin care before the appointment?

Share your full routine and ask for individualized preparation instructions. Do not stop prescribed treatment or add a new exfoliating routine based only on general online advice. Your plan should account for products and procedures you already use.

Can I schedule treatment just before a holiday or event?

Discuss the date and your travel plans in advance. Recovery needs and your usual activities may affect timing. If you are new to the treatment, leave room to consider whether another date would make the experience easier to manage.
